These photos appear to have been cut down from larger snapshots. They are about the size of an old cigarette card.
I believe these were taken during the Edwardian era. There is nothing particularly exciting about them, but they appeal to me for the small details of fashion and life that they capture.
I am unsure where these came from, but I think it is probable they are German.
These two mounted photos are unlike any others I have in my collection or have seen elsewhere. They are both about the size of a quarto sheet of paper and have individually hand painted trompe l’oeil decoration, signed by the artist.
The fact that the surrounds are hand painted is more obvious in the scans than in reality, so much so, that it took me some time to realise that the detail, including the marbled effect, was hand worked.
